Had a plan on setting up a bigger system but plans have changed, well just recently the pump on my skimmer went out.and I have a bigger skimmer but it's rated for 300 gallon to 600 gallon tanks I believe, anyways my total water volume is rd 85 gallons. Would this skimmer be to much for my tank it's a reef octupus so 5000ext I believe

Well I remember some one saying something bout bigger skimmers can go idle on smaller tanks and skim periodically that was another thing I was thinking.

The problem with a skimmer that large is stability of your tank. Can you sell the larger skimmer and purchase a new pump with the proceeds? I believe you'll strip your 85G's of water way to quick. JMA

I was thinking kind of same thing salty.Well my next question would be I can't seem to find the same pump for my old skimmer , I believe it's 580 gph if I used one maybe 500 gph or 600 gph would it effect my skimmer much?

You may trying to post it on this forum and someone may have one they can sale you or you could sell the your larger skimmer and purchase yourself a new or nice used skimmer. Folks have many good deals on here all the time. That would be my advise, your without a skimmer now so a little longer won't hurt. Just do more frequent Wc's.
