As I stated, I have the classic 150-INT. I did at one point have a 150sss (space saver) I thought that since it was more money, took up a smaller foot print, and the same brand, it would be better. It didn't work as well. I went back to the Classic after 4 months

That's good to know, I was looking at the space saver as well at one point. But I figured I'd go back to what I knew worked, so glad I made that decision!

I'm sold on the 110 int. Have to decide new or used now. Used is easier to get the wife on board, but I may just want new on this equipment. I definitely can get some money for my nyos
So you definitely can agree nyos requires a lot of work ?
Well not just NYOS......pretty much all skimmers. They get dirty quickly and it doesn't take much to throw them out of wack. The Red Sea just has some technology built in to counteract some of those things.

I can say the reef octopus classic can run without quickly getting dirty. Other than cleaning the skimmer cup i would only pull the skimmer body and pump out to deep clean maybe 1 time a year. One of the best skimmers iv owned or used

I vote lifereef. I have one on my 240 that came with the system when I purchased it. Best skimmer hands down of any big names I have owned. Venturi style skimmer so gunk doesn’t bother it. The constant Venturi keeps the bubbles forming and cleans itself. Aside from the skimmer cup.

They are all handmade by one guy. The beauty is you can use whatever pump you want. The body will last forever. The pump goes out, throw any new one you want and you are back in business.

Tunze dc skimmers. I run the 9430dc and 9410dc.
Have not cleaned the skimmer in over a year.
Just remove the cup/neck to clean.
Has anti overflow. No need to turn off when feeding.
I have extra cup/neck and just lift out the dirty one and drop in the clean without turning it off.
Very underrated skimmers, imo.

Yeah I have used those as well as NYOS and Red Sea.....there really is no difference in how they perform in regards to how quickly they get dirty. What becomes more important is how easy they are to take apart and clean. They all have the same technology.......acrylic body and neck with a pump at the bottom. If your isn't getting dirty quick, maybe your water is just cleaner to start?

I liked the NYOS 120 I had, only thing I ever did was clean the cup. Only reason I got rid of it was I wanted a bigger collection cup with drain.
You didn't find that it always untuned itself? Where did you have water line up to? The air knob quite literally either makes it overflow or nothing

"Hot and Bothered" LOL

You're gonna love it.

Are you going w/ Classic or the Regal/Elite?

Classic is that low tech you wanted...just plug it in and tune it.

The Regal or Elite are not that much more tech. Just a DC pump...less power consumption, quieter operation, tuneable pump and tuneable standpipe...and extra safety from a skimmer overflow sensor.

Probably the one with a DC pump as the rest of the system is DC - but I'm sure it's another 100 lol

I was gonna use hot and bothered lolol

My nano tank is running without a skimmer so I just forget about it! ;) My other tanks are running Bubble King 300, Vertex 200i, and Bubble Magus C9. I also have an old Reef Octopus 5000int and it's a beast - but too loud though. BK/Vertex are super reliable & quiet though. Newer generations of Reef Octopus skimmers are great as well. I'm not sure why you need to constantly tweak it. I've never had any issues with various skimmers - just make sure your water level is constant (with ATO) and adjust the skimmer dial for wet vs dry.

Does anyone have a skimmer they set and forget about ?? I'm tired of tuning my quantum nyos daily. It's the last piece of equipment that requires way too much attention. It's roughly 100 gallons overall
Yes I finally figured that out. Never use adjustment for cleaning reasons. First when you clean it throws the skimmer a little out of wack for a while so you tend to under adjust it. Just shut the power off before any maintenance and clean cup. When done turn power back on
