I just got a skimz monzter sm201 skimmer for basicly nothing. Will this skimmer work on my 90 gallon mixed reef with custom 33 gallon sump? I know its rated for much much more. Any input would be great.

I had the skimz 163 monster for my 93 cube and loved it , i sold the tank and got a 200 gal and bought that beast, skimz makes the best skimmers with the most control, pump speed, air intake and water level, i bought a Aquamaxx cone q2 for my new tank because everyone raived about them! No pump controller, or air intake controller, not even close to as good as a skimz

My opinion was always buy the biggest skimmer you could fit in your sump! And its always worked! You made the right choice

Not really, when the skimmer is too big you will find yourself tuning it constantly to get consistency ...

I guess that could be the case in some instances, i found in my 32 years plus reefing that always buy s bigger skimmer than what the manufacturer rated the skimmer for, because they always overate there skimmers, and of course it depends on bioload, etc! So i guess what I meant to say was buy a big skimmer that definitely rated for more than your tank and sump combined, but not so big the skimmer isn’t doing its job
