Hey guys. So my hammer coral who has been doing great for months now up until tonight is looking a little funny. The tentacles just look skinny and frail. My parameters are:
No3: 1
PO4: .02
Calcium: 420
Magnesium: 1480
Alkalinity 8.4
Ph 8.2

One thing to note is my alkalinity last weekend was low, 6.7, so I have been dosing red sea foundation alkalinity to get up to the 8.4 it's at now. This over 4 days.

My reading around has brought me to a few threads mentioning hammer corals don't like low nutrient tanks. Is this the problem or is it something else?

Are your nitrate and phosphate levels around the same as mine as well?

Is the pic with the light on? Reason I'm asking is because, my hammer looks like that every before lights kick in. Also +1 with the rapid alk rise.
No, the light is off. I initially saw it in this condition while the lights were ramping down but didn't take the picture until a little bit later.

I think you're right on the alk swing. Tonight it is looking better. Not back to normal but better. Scoly and bubble coral haven't missed a beat though, they look as good as ever
