I have a healthy Purple Tang that eats everything from pellets to flakes and frozen mysis and brine. Lately I've noticed that the Tang has gotten skinny. Still eats like a pig though. I went and purchased Prazipro and put the Tang in a 30g QT with a hang on back filter with carbon filter removed. Is there anything else I should use to treat the tang?

Here is a picture of the Tang before I placed it the QT.

If he is eating and is that skinny, my best guess is internal parasites. It might be too late for him, so act quickly. In addition to prazi, I would try and get some mediated foods right away that treat for internal parasites.

Thanks for your reply, what do you think about this food?

  • Active ingredients: Magnesium Sulfate, IH-Imidazole-I-ethanol, 2-methyl-5-nitro-(443-48-1)

i would suggest feeding him metroplex which treats internal parasites. or general cure which contains both metro and prazi. you can do either in the food with Focus to bind it. It's better that way as the meds pass right through the gut which is where the parasites are.

Curious though... have you seen any white stringy poo from him?

I have noticed the white stringy poo and the Tang does pick on the sand/gravel bed a lot. I bought the food posted above and had it express delivery so should be here sometime today. I will try those pellets and see if it'll eat it. Since the Tang came out of the DT, I will feed this food in the DT for preventative to all other fishes in there.
