Sweet pictorial. I have done it a few times, havnt lost one yet. I have always made sure that i had a real baby first before i cut them, as a backup incase.

I have more than a few people who wouold like a piece of this and will pretty much give me several of anything I want in trade.......

ive been contemplating doing it for like a year now, as well as in the last year have been target feeding this thing to make it drop a baby and it wont. its almost 5" across and its the only one ive got. I will cut anything usually but I REALLY like this guy and up to now ive been a big weanie about it.

I also have the benefit of it being attached to a rock in such a way I could slice it in half and still have both halves still attached to a rock.

Whadya think?? should I do it? :D This thread is making me think so......

Go for it man!!!

Usually, when I frag, the most difficult part is removing it from the original rock. If I cut it attached to the rock, there is more than 50% chance that the 2 half will combine back into one!!!

These mushis have great healing powers!!!

I wish mine was as bright as yours. That's beautiful. I've now got four from my original one. I haven't checked on them in quite some time. Perhaps when I get home today I'll check them out and slice them up again.

I say don't do it.......Let it do it's thing naturally......A great yuma like that should be left alone.....But that is my opinion....

Thank you ver much. ya...it really is something. Its under straight 10k 250 w reeflux.(as far away from the light as can be without being in the shade......... any higher it turns reddish and lightens up

Filter?? Not sure I understand the question......you meant camera filter?? never used one. as far as tank filter.....he lives in a sps dominated sytem with flow, rock and a skimmer as a filter...nothing else. Incidentally....I scored this beaut from a guy breaking down a tank. I paid a small fraction of what the thing is conceivably worth for it and it is exactly the same size now as it was when i got it


Azurel- It was late last night when I responded....but I seriously was ready to finally do it and kind of expected everyone to be in favor and was going to possibly cut it today as I need to cut a few things anyway...... thanks for being a party pooper. :D

ive never cut a yuma before...but cut countless floridas and always prefer to slice them leaveing all parts with a piece of already attached foot.

after you cut it...scrape the foot(now feet) away from each other a little and they wont fuse back together :)

Well I would hate to see it get cut and die, we as reefers have such a hard time with yumas anyway and yumas like that, that are thriving are a rarity to begin with. I don't know for sure but would put money on that 90% of them that are as nice as that one that come into the hobby melt and die , why take the chance of cutting it and having the potential of it or the new frag doing the same thing.......That is where I am coming from.....I know how you feel Flyguy I have a couple that I would like to cut for frags to trade with but I just can't take the risk of losing them, knowing how touchy they can be and expensive they are to replace.......As far as party pooper, well someone has to be right? LOL.....

...and they're dead. I hadn't checked on the splits in quite some time. They've been in the same container covered with a filter sock(ish) type material. It was fairly clogged with detritus/algae. No light, no flow = no more yumas. Gross neglect on my part. I still view the fragging as successful and will attempt again when I acquire another nice yuma.
