Where is this facebook group? I've been using Fritz salt for well over a year without any issues.
It's called "fritz salt killed my corals".

If you decide to ignore my advice of switching (I get it I did the same thing) watch your corals and the frirst sign of color loss do a huge water change with different salt immediately. See if they bounce back.

This is probably not what you want to hear... Your tank is 6 months old, according to your tank thread, and you started with dead rock. A tank like this would take closer to a year to mature. While I do agree with the comments about lowering alk, I think your tank also needs time to mature.

If I would have known almost 2 yrs ago starting with dates base rock would take over s year I may have went another route. Back then this knowledge wasn’t widely available. Things are finally starting to grow in my tank but it’s tsken a while.

1/3 of the rock and 1/2 the sand were from my 2 year established Reef. Also my marine pure block was in the established reef as well.

In fact one of my problems was that the bio filter (the part we wait so long on) is too strong and prevented nutrients (no3 and po4) from accumulating.

I agree the tank is young. It grew acros great until I switched salts.

My experinece matches many people who had the same issue with fritz salt.

Try this, call fritz and tell them you think you have a bad batch of salt. They won't say we have no reports of bad salt trucks this that the other thing. They will say what's the batch number of your salt ...
They have been hush hush about this issue because it will destroy their business. I know I will never purchase any of their products anymore.

I used fritz myself for a period of time but did not like the Params. I emailed fritz about the issue but they never returned my email so I, too, switched.

Running regular old IO with muriatic to get the alk down but cal and mag are spot on.

Most issues with tin are from the salt mix. Coralife, Kent are known to have high metals. It is not out of the realm of possibility that others have issues too... especially since several different brands are oft made in the same places. In any case, IO is a great salt, so just stick with it.

I like instant ocean. I figured out exactly what I need to dose in each batch to match the tank.

45ml muratic acid
200ml calcium solution
700ml magnesium solution.

Then I'm right where I want to be with a bit of aeration.

People have been using Muratic for 40 years to lower alk in freshly mixed salt. This way, you can use the best salt possible and adjust it to your liking. This works better than using a salt just because it matches your tank parameters when it might not be as good.

Yup. Lowers the alk... Also drops the pH but with aeration the pH will come back up.

I have never used it. I have a few friends that switched from IO to Salinity then to Fritz and now back to IO. They have high metal complaints with Fritz like so many others. We are only really into Acropora, so perhaps that matters.

I think they figured out what the issue was and resolved it. But still they aren't transparent about what happened. Your salt may be perfectly fine.

Well only way to find out. And that's the ICP test. I was using the red sea pro salt. But my alk stayed too high. My tank does well with alk around 7.5 to 8. Each tank is different. I've burned coral with high alk.
