Small, schooling, reef-safe fish?

I have a new-to-me 300g peninsula tank with the current stock list: Gem tang, purple tang, lavender tang, orange-shoulder tang, melanurus wrasse, yellow watchman goby, and a regal angel. I would love to have some smallish, schooling fish for the tank. Any thoughts?

6 green blue chomis , pajamas, or anthids

or 10 of each. They will swim together at times.

I’ve always said Green or Blue Chromis. But when they get big, they can be just as mean as any other Damsel fish. And the schooling doesn’t last very long with them. Good luck though.

Honestly I would try 10-20 Talbots or azure damsels. They won’t really school but will give tons of colorful movement to your tank. They are a little more well mannered than other damsels too.

I got 8 chomis one was sick anb got pulled in to the side of my wavemaker . The other 7 school together at times during the day. They have a pecking order so the smaller ones do get chased around . What fun would there be with out a little action LOL.

Get a couple neon gobys you will not be disappointed. Awsome little fish.

No fish are going to school in your tank. They exhibit that behavior to avoid predation. When they realize there are no predators in your tank, they won't school.

That said, if I had a 300g I would add a huge group of anthias.

I'm happy to be proven wrong. Chromis/damselfish and anthias definitely won't. They will hang out in loose groups but no synchronized movement you'd see with a school. The closest I've seen is with some small cardinalfish species.

I’ve seen domino damsels school but idk if they were stressed or not they might not once in the tank lol

Those are two shoals of fish, neither is really schooling. It's also 80 fish in a small tank with zero rock/decorations/hiding places. There's also a semi aggressive angelfish in with them. Stressed fish are more likely to stick together.
