Hi Guys,

I’m upgrading from my 4x1.5x1.5 to a 6x2x2.

The old tank sits on a hugely over engineered steel stand. The new tank is just a glass box, rather than a full set-up.

I’m looking to put new tank on old stand but on a thick piece of ply so the weight is spread

What are people’s thoughts on how this should be done - both safety due to weight and not wanting to spend huge ammounts of cash.

Would this be safe if the ply is nice and thick?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Is it a rimless tank? 1’ on either side is a pretty big overhang.

It’s euro braced. Excuse the dust.

What do you mean when you say braces?

The other option is to build a stand with 2x4 timber, but 28 meters of wood is coming out quite expensive.

These are just flat but I’d use a triangle so it has actual support.

I see what your suggesting. The only issue being I’ve no ideal how I would attach something like this to the steel of the stand.

The ideal would be to have someone weld it onto the stand. You could bolt it onto the stand, but that wouldn't be nearly as strong.

A third option, albeit costlier, would be to have someone weld the supports for you in a way that they overlap the top of the stand so you can bolt them further back.
