Smart Plugs

Before I go and just try some, are there any smart plugs that people have used with good success?

I got a whole pile of the Rossmont pumps when they went out of business. These are AC, but able to start and stop without harm. I just want to have a plug that will turn them on and off every few minutes or so... nothing fancy.

Are you turning them on/off in some sort of pattern? If so, a short cycle timer might be better.

I have a bunch of TPLink smart plugs and haven't been that thrilled with them. Sometimes they lose connection and I have to scramble to stop water from overflowing.

I recently bought some Yolink devices which use a different longer range radio. I'll probably be switching over.

I have been using kasa strips and plugs. They are really easy to set up, schedule, and are inexpensive.

I would just be happy with 1 minute on, 1 minute off, or 2/2, 3/3 or 4/4. That is all that I need.

I’m curious to see what people recommend here. On and off every few minutes I’m imagining would affect longevity on standard units. There are heavy duty appliance plugs that are actually relays with higher cycle ratings. I prefer locally controlled options like zwave, zigbee, etc that would require a hub like HomeSeer but are internet independent and don’t have cloud issues. People seem to love kasa products….

I've been using two of these as short cycle timers for several years now:

Not smart or wireless in any way but you can set them to X min on, Y min off repeat forever or for Z hours. My used (fresh) tank water is pumped out of my basement to the base of a tree at 4 min on, 12 off intervals over 3 hrs. If I pumped continuously it'd only take 45 min and flood the lawn rather than give the tree a deep watering.

I haven’t seen any wifi plugs that can cycle on and off that many times in a day. Usually they are limited to around 30 on/off commands in 24 hours.

Kasa has been very stable for me with good control.

Another vote for kasa. Been working great. On occasion the app would show my equipment is offline when it’s not, I had to unplug and plug it back and it’s good to go. Doesn’t happen often.

Pass on Kasa and the like for anything critical. The internet connectivity is kinda a hard pass as I had a tank go kaput over them not doing what they should.

If it aint critical go for it.

If going for cycles of short time spans, this is what I'd use as well.
