Hey all just wanted to know what this is. I think it’s a baby trochus snail because I saw a snail releasing gametes about 3 weeks ago. Just making sure it is what I’m thinking.

Ah, nice, a stomatella! Cute little suckers, and hard to buy on purpose.

Baby trochus snails look like mini trochuses.

Molluscs with shells hatch with the shell already hard. It doesn't work like crustacean exoskeleton- different stuff. Like how coral skeleton is always hard as soon as it exists.

Hmmmm learn something new everyday. I was under the impression that the protoconch was soft then developed into its harder teleconch as it grew.

I just know you can open up a whelk egg case that was right about to hatch before getting washed up, and you'll find tiny shells suitable for baby hermit crabs. I read a description of the great deal of trouble involved in breeding and raising land hermit crabs, and one of the troubles was getting shells small enough for the newly morphed babies. The author got said shells from, among other places, a friend who sent in the contents of a dead egg case.
(You can also find pics online of the tiny shells in whelk egg cases.)
