Trying to see if anyone knows exactly what kind of snails these are? I bought 8 “trochus” snails from World Wide Corals a few months back, but two of them are significantly larger than the rest and have many more little tentacles coming out from them. Their entire body is ringed in tentacles when they are cleaning. Their body appears to be like zebra striped.

My melanarus wrasse and hermits killed the small trochus but these beasts are still going strong and eating algae like crazy. I’d like to pick up some more but since WWC moved I havent seen them at their new location. Any idea the species?

i know they are trochus was just trying to see if anyone knew specifically what kind. Most of the smaller trochus I have left have the all black foot with less prominent tentacles. Those are the ones I’m used to seeing in the hobby.

These guys have this zebra striped foot and the tentacles are huge and really extended when active. They are significantly larger than I’m used to with other trochus. I’m thinking if ordered banded trochus online I probably wouldn’t end up with these specific species. Not sure what to look for.

My guess is most places (LFS) will have a variety based on what the wholesalers have in stock, so the likelihood of getting a specific species will be hard. You can order banded trochus and probably get a few different species within a small batch and hopefully get lucky? I probably have two or three different species of trochus in my 90g.
I breed strombus maculatus (nano conchs), well I just let them do their thing, but I'm pretty sure there are two species in my tank based on shell and foot coloration, but that doesn't stop them from making more.
