Just to be sure, there' s no way having a peacock mantis and a snowflake eel would every fly huh?

What happened? How big was each creature?
This is a natural size based prey/predator interaction. If smaller, the mantis shrimp is a snack, if bigger, then the snowflake eel is the snack. With a mantis shrimp, keep anything beyond a single individual in a species tank is almost impossible.

It's like trying to keep a lion and an african buffalo together. One is going to kill the other, and it could go either way.
