I have a 10ish inch snowflake in a 300l (I think 70g) I bought him about 2 months ago but only see him at feeding time, I also dangle the food in front of him to take, am I destined to only ever seeing him at feeding time? should I feed him less and let him hunt for it instead to draw him out?

From what i have heard the more hiding spaces it has the more you will see it. Pretty much the more comfortable the eel is the more it will explore. I wouldn't recommend holding out on feedings as it will make it more aggressive. I dont have a SFE just been looking into getting one. If you have a picture of your tank that would be helpful.

My snowflake is super outgoing, so I'm not sure if yours is just shy or if something else is going on. A picture of your rockscape would definitely help! As counterintuitive as it seems, the more hiding places there are, the more outgoing an eel will be since they feel secure. Does he have sufficient space for a burrow? Also, what other tank inhabitants do you have? Do you have very aggressive fish that could be intimidating or picking at him?

My snowflake goes from rock to rock mostly.. If you look for him you can spot his head poking out. He sometimes comes out and paces the tank.. Mainly comes out when he smells food
