Try moving the coral higher up first. Not to far at once, a few inches at a time. Give it a week per move. Your DKH is a little lower than most people run but it's still right there with natural sea water. Don't start chasing numbers! If you feel like raising your DKH do it slowly.

I agree with this too. Since his po4 was .04ppm the organics will also lower ph and alk. I've always had better luck with higher alk with higher nutrients.

1/4 in the morning. 1/4 in the evening for 2 days then monitor alk for adjustments. I'm also correcting myself for saying sodium bicarbonate from BRS won't affect pH as much as i'm making it would.

You wanna bring your DKH up and that's fine but, if I'm understanding your post right, you haven't changed anything and the birds nest grew like a beast till now right? I'm urging you to try moving it a little higher up and in a little more flow before you start changing your parameters. Stability is everything

Depends on what alk was before?

The necrosis is there though. You cant reverse it so fragging would be best.

Using RODI (0 TDS) and Red Sea Coral Pro for salt mix.

I think red sea pro is alk of 10 @ 1.026. Assuming you started the tank with rscp. Your 10% wc is most likely replenishing your alk. This is ok if you maintain alk and percentage of water changes. It would be critical for sps if you ignore alk in this manner. You need to decide where you would like alk. And stick with it.

You could raise the coral but i would raise a frag and not the coral. I think the damage is done. It wont be necessary to dip but use iodine.

Oh I see. That makes sense. The slower, the better.

Well, your two most demanding coral aren't doing so hot. My guess the uptake of calcium carbonate is limited now. Coralline should uptake some though. Have you tested alk today?

Have you tested you alkalinity before a water change and after? Wondering how low the alkalinity gets before water change raises it.. Is the 10am and 10pm readings the same every day?

I went through your thread. alkalinity is at border line but I think people including me run system at low alkalinity (dkH 7-4-7.7). I have few suggestion based on my experience....

1. Your nutrient level is quite low and you are using LED. Although I can see its on sandbed still and I dont know at what intensity you are using your LED. I would suggest lowering it down or move it from direct light. Lower alkalinity with low nutrient and high light is not good for SPS.
2. Stop using the carbon and take GFO reactor offline to raise your nutrient a bit but not much. You can run the GFO for 12 hours and stop it for next 12. But dont run carbon as possibly it is stripping your water too much.
3. I would prefer you cut the dead part out and mount it back or it can grow algae on that part and stress it more.
