So high alkalinity

I used my Hanna checker to test alkalinity but it wasn't calibrated and had false reading and I dosed kh accordingly. When I tested my aquarium with another test, i found reading more than 18. I started decreasing kh gradually by changing 10% of water daily untill i reached 11.5 dkh. Any suggestion about such case

Do you have to calibrate the Hanna, that’s odd.
