got my new refractometer from BRS today been using a coralife deep six for a few years and decided it was past time to upgrade I do a regular vinegar soak on it so I thought it was pretty close to being right Wrong! it was reading between 1.024 & 1.025 I like my salinity at 1.026 so have been slowly raising it up with every water change guess what the refractomenter is reading 1.030 yikees!!!!!!!!!!! so throw yours away & get you a refractometer :tongue:

Actually a couple of threads have indicated that depending on how you calibrate your refractometer, it can run high...so it may be an issue with the refractometer rather than the hydrometer...frustrating right?

I bought a refractometer and calibration solution after a couple of years of using an Instant Ocean hydrometer. They read EXACTLY the same. I rarely use my refractometer but I do use it to double check my results from time to time.

I just use RO water to calibrate my BRS refractometer. Also I thought the swing-arms would read high when they weren't correct as it was mostly due to bubbles on the arm.
