Edit just to add. When he was purchased he went through full QT and has only been in tanks with fish that have also been QTd

What size tank did you have him in?
 
We have a few LFS in my area that are very well stocked, a gold rim tang is a bit of a rarity. The last one I saw was about the same size as yours and was offered for $250, and it sold before the next weekend.
