I have noticed some small pieces of this (soft coral?) attached to a few things washed up on the beach. This small one is on/in some algae. They deflate when taken out of the water and are very soft to the touch.

Probably a tunicate. They pump water in and out of their bodies so it makes sense that they would deflate. Though I could be wrong. Harmless little filter feeders.

Also possibly a sponge.
