Something on snail shell?

I bought a bunch of asters last week and noticed what looks like another shelled creature hanging our lot on the snails shell. Can anyone identify this or does the shell just have a weird growth pattern?

Looks like a chiton. Good CUC, and cool critters ;)

I thought that at first. Though when I've seen them before they weren't anywhere near this size. These things are taking up like 1/4 of the shell. Do they get that big?

Found one in my tank once that was 2 inches

Wow! Ok sweet then I feel a bit better. Was considering scraping them off the shells but I guess I will leave them
