hey guys I recently got a really nice 35 head acan and even tho it is keeping it's color very well it is not puffing up or extending it feeding tentacles like it should. now with that said I also have a 3 head frag of another acan that is doing everything it supposed to..lol. it's like a pig...is there something I can do with the big one? I have never really had much experience with acans but they are becoming my 2nd fav...zoas are first...lol

Any suggestions on what to do?

thanks
mike

How long have you had it??? I would do a dip. It might be infected with something. When my corals look sick i dip them in TMPCC.

maybe he isnt hungry lol i myself do not have any acans right now im holding off till i get the new tank up and going but i see allot of people anytime something is wrong at all even if it just looks unhappy they immediantly dip the coral and i understand that we all love to do everything in our power to keep them alive but doesnt a dip stree them even more? honestly it could still be getting used to your tank. or like i said maybe he lost is appitite i would just keep a close eye and if the colors stay the same i would just spit some food his way whenevr you feed and maybe it will respond this is just IMO like i said befor i do not have acans. plan on having a few nice ones with the new tank though so im interested in hearing how it works out for you

Well i have over like over 50 different kinds of micro and acans and they are pretty hardy. I never had one that doesn't puff up in 48hours. Can you get a pic?? What is not as puffy to you? I would definitely dip the acan. It's better to do it early than wait will it starts to receed then do it. Oh and at night check up on it when the lights are off. Do you see the feeder tentacles come out??

hyper... I will get a pic as soon as the lights come on. the little frag is always puffy and tentacles out. I have some lugols dip will that work? no one around here as the TMPCC. will that also work for sps? I have been told to use interceptor for the sps.

Interceptor is only if you have AEFW (acro eating flatworms), but some people dose it in like a QT tank so it can help prevent contamination of the DT.

Im going to be picking up Lugol's dip soon so I can dip incoming corals. I know it works well for zoanthids/palys/etc... but I wonder about acans?

EDIT: TMPCC can be used on acroporas in particular, but I think it will work. Its just an iodine dip (just like Lugol's). TMPCC on Marine Depot is $17.99, so look around, I think this might be a good price because Ive always found Marine Depot to be good with competition.

TMPCC will work for sps, lps, and zoos also. Lugol's will work also. You can even use interceptor for the acans and micros too. I think the interceptor is more potent and will work better. Don't use too much though.

I Use "tech D" By Kent Marine. I Have Yet To Lose Any Zoas Or Any Softies. I Dip Everything In This Before I Place In Tank. Bryan From Pure Captive Turned Me On To It A Few Years Back.
