Can anyone here recommend a material that I can use to serve as sound proofing for my large aquarium's stand? This would be mostly just to dampen the sound of the water splashing in the sump, etc. I was thinking Neoprene or something like that. Something with a peel and stick option would be nice. Anyone?

Is the back of the stand open to the wall?

Look at car stereo system sound poofing. They also make spray type car stuff for anti heat. Basically a spray on fire wall.
Think it was called boom proof or something lol.
Also look at instrument sound proofing for rooms. Like in a recording studio or for your drum room in your house. Usually has a lot of triangles...

Sounds good. Foam egg crate seems like a good possibility.

It's mostly useless with an open back. You could spend hundreds to dynamat the entire inside and maybe get a 10% noise reduction.

Acoustic foam between the back and the wall will give the most benefit.

I could fill the gap between the wall and the stand - it's only about 1/4" (if that - it may be less). Was thinking either closed cell egg crate foam or mass loaded vinyl? Or Neoprene?

It's not so much splashing noise that can be controlled. It's more just the rushing of the water through the PVC pipes. I probably could have gotten a quieter result with flex PVC, but that's not really an option now... It's not terribly noisy, but my wife's ears are MUCH more sensitive than mine, apparently... :p

Neoprene should work, there's a type that has a sticky backing

I did this, including closing off the open back and made everything dead quiet...

...couple months later mold was growing like crazy inside the now sealed up quiet sump area, so I tore it all out ugh
