Hi all, just really a curiosity question - I have a space invader pectinia that’s always looked very “puffy”. Looks kinda inflated compared to others I see. Just wondering if this is normal, and if so why? I’m sure it’s healthy, it’s growing great. Pics of when I got it vs now.
The coral looks good.
I don't know why corals get puffy. I don't think I have ever heard or read an explanation, so I guess I'll make one up.
Corals get puffy for two reasons, one because they can and two, they think it makes them look bigger to predators who might want to swallow them. Have you ever heard of anything swallowing a coral? Of course not! The puffy fake-out totally works.
I have this same question. I assume it's happy since it's puffy due to intaking the tank water, however I have a lot of local reefers who have a much more spindly, non-puffy looking space invader. Not sure what causes the differences.
