So I created this thread on a Red Sea G1 525 XL I was given for free, and wanting to add additional support to the seams, and it didn't get much traction. It's a working tank with no seam issues currently but was looking to add additional support before filling and using it.

Anyway, I have decided to ignore everything I said there and add eurobraces to the top and bottom of my tank, but I am not sure how much space I should allocate between the glass cuts for silicone.

The tank itself seems to have 1/8 inch spacing so I was planning to have the same spacing beween the glass and the tank, but what about the pieces of glass themselves? Should I leave no spacing?

Leaving 1/8 of an inch, specifically between the glass cuts themselves, seems like a lot. Especially on top because I will be putting them in the tank and not have them sitting on top.

Should there be no spacing between the glass itself? Smaller spacing?

I’ve found that around 3/32” air gap between glass pieces is ideal to inject silicone into; not too narrow to inject, not a gaping wide slot!

This means each glass piece would be cut 3/16” short of exact dimensions to accommodate for 3/32” of air gap at each end! (Assuming both ends of the piece in question are being put in a blind corner where injection silicone is mandatory, vs. just laying a bead and setting the glass in place!)

Around 1mm-1.5mm of seam thickness appears to be the happy place for most seams where you’re just laying a bead and placing the glass!
