Got this sponge 2 says ago, polyps opened up the next day. Seeing mixed opinions as to of its easy for hard to keep . I have it on the sand of a 150 gal tank with indirect current

It's very difficult to keep. They're always showing up in seahorse tanks. I had one years ago.

The white stuff is a parasitic Epizoanthus which has a symbiotic (parasitism) relationship with the sponge. The zoanthids are very easy to keep but the sponge is difficult. To make it more difficult the "coral" os a ticking time bomb since the Epizoanthus polyps are slowly smothering and killing the sponge. Sponges need constant water flow through their bodies in order to survive so when they get overgrown they die

Thanks. I put a little powerhead blowing through it. Hopefully, it does well.
