Any issues with taking out the black sponge filters in the return sections of the E-series? I'm not big on sponge filters because they just clog. I've been cleaning mine 2-3 times a month. Completely taking them out and fully cleaning in RO water. I'm just sort of done with them.

I'd love to figure out how to push some nylon mesh filter socks on there though. They would be a lot easier to remove/clean.

The colour of the water that comes out of the sponge when I clean mine would suggest it may be a good idea to keep it in! Ultimately I wish I had gone for the reefer rather than the E-Series to make maintenance easier...
