Sps beginner

What is the most forgiving sps there is based on its sensitivity to changes in water parameters? I don’t have any sps in my tank but eventually I will. What are the steps I need to take to get there?

Montipora digitata is probably the easiest branching sps to keep. Stable water conditions, i.e. pH, temp, salinity, etc., good water flow, and medium lighting roughly 150 par, will keep them happy.

If it’s acros you’re looking to venture into, Garf Bonsai is pretty darn rugged! It’ll accept a wide variety of flow and lighting but like any sps it will thrive with better flow and lighting, and stable parameters.

I don't know what this acropora tuotorsa is. But you can find this to start an acropora. It's really hardy.

If you're looking just to dip into basic SPS, Stylophora (thick branching), Montipora digitata (thinner branching), montipora capricornus (plating) and birds nest are all very hardy and reasonably fast growers. If you want to dive staight into acroporas, you can't beat green slimers. They are arguably the most forgiving acros.

I will forgive you for saying this... :) Very awesome acro. I wouldn’t recommend it to a beginner though.

vpoiu1263, that’s an austera and there are a number of variants like that but the most popular is the wwc yellow tip austera. I would defiantly say that’s a good beginner acropora. Grows very very fast and is a tough piece.

Easy SPS are montipora, birds nests, pocillipora, and stylophora. Most acropora are more challenging. If you can get good growth from the easy ones, it is time to try acropora, if you want to.

Any alreaady dead sps are very forgiving, the rest are highly variable. :)

Try and get a frag from a local reefer or your LFS that has been in captivity for awhile and not a brown out! Healthy growing coral frags will be your best shot.
