I am looking for a good book on corals, Mainly SPS and LPS. One that talks about coral identification, placement, growth patterns and care requirements. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

For an easy to understand reference on most aquarium corals I like Corals: A Quick Reference Guide by Julian Sprung. It's 12 years old now so I'm sure our understanding of some corals has changed, but I still find it a valuable book.

Thanks Russel. I have that one. I like it but I am looking for something more in-depth.

You wont find what you are looking for.. You can find some good id books out there but not much on placement.

Corals of the world is a good id set. (not cheap though)

As far as placement:
It really depends on where the coral comes from in the wild. Some corals have a wide range and can adapt to many conditions and some small range. The same coral can come from totally different environments in some cases and really depends on what it adapted to in the wild.

As far as frags go they can adapt to.

One problem is every ones tank is different.. Way different lighting, bulb combinations and flow.
About the best you get in a book is high, medium, or low light and the same for flow.

And another issue is there are soooooooo many corals in this hobby that the book would be huge and very expensive.

Another problem is we mix all these different corals from all these different types of flow, lighting etc. and basically keep them in one tank with the same flow and lighting.

Best place to find out about placement is from who ever the coral frag came from or online
