It's all about stability, dosing amount starts with the recommendation from the manufacturer and is only a guide line for start-up. By testing daily you will be able to determine when to cut back on the amount you will need to the params that you set your goals on. SPS does not like sudden changes in the tanks params, by pouring in the supplements in your sump will shock the SPS when that supplement reaches the DT via return pump, you do not need an expensive doser, you can buy a 20 dollar manual doser controlled by a wheel lock, a slow drip method is best.

The problem with the brs stuff is that it adds another element with the magnesium which to me is more difficult. If I had a large system it would definitely be the way I went though. I switched to the Kent reef fusion it works great for me and has the mg to help keep them balanced.

RTN=Rapid Tissue Necrosis. Or the way I see it, Really Troubling News.
If you keep SPS. You'll eventually experience RTN and STN. RTN is the more serious one that can kill a full size colony within hours. It's caused by abrupt changed in water chemistry usually rapid change of (high) alk and (high) temperature. The flesh on the tips start to fall off(burn) and rapidly go down do the whole colony. Once it starts, you usually can't really do anything about it.

STN is, of course, the slower version and starts from the base of the colony/frag. It can take days or weeks or months to work its way up. Usually, you can save it buy fragging the STN part.
