This is the fourth time this has happened.
I have been removing the mushrooms every couple of weeks at around 6-8 at a time.
When they release to relocate they kill whatever they land on.
I got up a couple of months ago to find one one an sps.
I removed it and the branch was dead. I covered the dead area with putty and it is fine now.
I cant really do the same with this stag.
I found another laying in the middle of another acro, removed it and the acro is alive a few months later but has a dead area in the middle.

So this morning I get up and test alk and find this. The large mushroom colony is directly below this purple stag. My guess is one released and was caught on the stag causing this.
Guess I will need to frag it several inches above the dead area.
I hope its not all gone when I get home from work.
I am going to try and remove all of them in the comming weeks that I can get to.
Anyone else have this experience with mushrooms?
Pic is with room lights on only.

I don't allow mushrooms in any tank that I want to grow SPS or any encrusting coral in. To many bad experiences.

Dennis
Yea learn the hard was I guess.
There were ony 3-5 on the live rock to start. They are now throughout the tank.
Many are in hard to reach places.
It seems the more I remove the more that come back.
This is one I was able to put putty over and it stopped the stn.
Cant get to the stags bottom so I will have to frag it and relocate.
I am going to remove as many as I can. I found the one that did the damage I think as it was stuck to the back side of a powerhead.

ok, I'm going to stop complaining about how slow my mushrooms are growing and not spreading... yikes!
From my experience they are fine when relegated to one rock.
The problem is when they decide to release and relocate. The said rock was in the tank from day one.
My guess is when they grow together they release due to crowding.
I have seen the same issues at a lfs but did not put 2 and 2 together.
My upgrade will never have shrooms and if I see one I will remove it asap!
I have 3 of the same in my frag tank and they will be removed tonight.

It's only ever the ugly ones. I have yet to see a tank overrun with yuma's or bounce mushrooms. :p

My current frag tank is starting to get a ton of electric green pally's that are turning into a plague. They came from a past tank, the blue mushroom one. I thought I had killed them off, but a polyp must have snuck in and they started to multiply on the backside of a rock. Grrr.

Strangely I've seen them release and start growing on my overlfow and nowhere else... Think in my case the mushrooms cannot spread bc tank/rocks are too full of softies so no more real estate. Guess this was one benefit of my laziness of not pruning overgrown corals.
