About a month ago my jabaoe or however you spell it uv burned a hole in itself and almost caused a fire. I think it was leaking a little inside from the glass being cracked.

It was a 36w uv. And i used it to help manage ich in my tank. With it gone ive noticed ich being a little more prevalent now.

So i want to buy a new uv sterilizer but honestly the jabaoe one also leached plastic the uv would melted it and leave black powder and black water inside if i shook it. Ive seen this before online with other people.

What do you guys think of stainless steel ones ? Will it the leach metals or rust in salt water aquariums ?

Depends on the grade of SS. Does it list whether it’s 316 or 304 SS? It makes a big difference. Most of the jebao sterilizers I saw were for fresh water ponds not reef tanks and it doesn’t matter to them which grade of SS it was .

Stainless can still rust in salt as it is often mixed with other metals.

A quality UV won’t have the issues the Jebao did. I use a Aqua Ultraviolet. I hear good things about Lifeguard too.

I like Jebao pumps but the UV is a no go for the reasons you experienced. You get what you pay for in this instance.

They should be made out of PVC. I'm guessing the Jebao was some other plastic.

I used a nylon barbed fitting once and it got so weak that it broke during handling. A few more months and it probably would have broken on its own and caused a nice flood.
