along side my reef tank I have a planted tank as well. While not the usual subject of this forum, I figured the equipment I’m looking for would be right up this site’s alley. I’m trying to simplify the equipment visible in my tank. And currently I have my tank hooked right to my rodi filter using a h.o.b. Float valve. I was wondering if anyone knows of a standalone optically controlled solenoid I can use to keep my tank at the correct depth? I say standalone because I don’t have any tank controller on my tank.

I did the same thing for a while, I used the Tunze RO water controller/solenoid. It’s basically designed to help autofill a freshwater reservoir but I used in directly in my sump for a long time.

Then one of the optical eyes failed eventually.
You will get all kinds of warnings about not doing it this way as it provides for a significant source of catastrophic failure. Of course if you’re running it in a freshwater tank that may not matter.
