Starboard question please help!

i got mine on ebay...search king star board. I got a decent sized sheet pretty cheap.

Use it in the tank. I got the black stuff. Looks pretty clean.

I personally got it for when i take top down pictures in my frag tank and for protection on the glass bottom. I used this to black out the back wall as well.

I went with the 1/4 inch stuff. Just get a new blade and cut yourself...I used a table saw.

Foam should be the only thing going inbetween a tank and stand! Or just the stand and tank...

You should never put anything under a factory made tank. They are build specifically to have the bottom frame in contact with something solid and NOT on the bottom glass. Using blue construction foam can cause a tank to fail by putting stress on the bottom pane of glass that it is not designed to carry.

As for tempered vs. regular glass...tempered would be much stronger. I personally wouldn't get starboard as a protection so much as for aesthetic reasons. Protection would be a by-product, but not cost efficient to encourage me to get it by itself.

Your correct you really should not put anything under the tank... But some people do it for whatever reason!

Hey Ben!

I had asked several guys on the other forum about this and I'm sure you talked to Brian (corsi) about it. The glass is tempered on the bottom and should be alright. Depending on how you place your rocks it'll be hard for them to fall and do a straight dive to the bottom without bumping into something else (like another rock) first to slow it down or something. Tempered glass is pretty strong.

Hey Ken, yeah iv been talking to Brian about this. I think i am going to go for the starboard though, probably black :). I guess i would feel safer just in case if something would to happen and i knock over a big rock and it falls since i seem to do that a lot lol.

I'm also thinking bout going barebottom, sorry for highjacking Ben, but what is starboard and why do you need it for barebottom..?

Sometimes they can be a challenge but not often, the reason being is that they grow on top of the thick coraline algae which is easy to pull off.

Gotcha, i know that chalices grow their own skeleton so i guess you can just pull them off even if the coraline algae hasnt grown on the starboard yet?

BTW did you silicone the edges of the starboard to the tank?
