has anyone caught there own starfish? I caught one at the beach today but unsure if I want to put it in a tank

You'll want to identify the species before you decide whether to keep it or not. You need to have an identity in order to know what it eats.

Post Picts on the hitchhiker forum to see if anyone can determine the species.

Personally I'd put it back. I wouldn't trust it to be either reef safe or for my ability to keep it alive long term.

If you're in California it is VERY VERY VERY illegal to collect stuff from the wild (like any type of marine life). Plus it won't live in our reef tanks. They require coldwater systems which from personal experience is very hard to maintain
