In the process of turning a 40 breeder (cichlids) into another reef tank. I found my spot in the basement foyer. First thing I am doing is getting a small area ready next to where the tank will be going for ATO and maybe some electronics. Still have to put a door and top shelf on. I will be drilling the tank but don’t have the overflow yet as I am still researching. Looking at maybe the ESHOPPS series 845 gph. The PVC pipe is there for me to run wires and my ATO hose to the rear of my sump from the reservoir.

I love my 40b and found that the Eshopps Eclipse S was the best fit for me. I originally had the M, but it was just too big and I couldn't keep the water line above the rim of the tank.

Great choice, I love cichlids and raised them for a while but saltwater isn’t much more challenging!

Same here. Have many many cichlids tanks now with plenty of babies that I don’t know what to do. I am condensing freshwater for another salt water tank. So much more to a saltwater tank than freshwater.

Where did you mount the overflow. In the corner? and where did you mount the return. Trying to find out the best option. If you have pics I would appreciate. Thanks

On the first 40b I put the overflow in the center and drilled a return on either end of the tank. On my current build, the overflow is in one corner and the return is in the opposite corner. I actually like the single return better on this size tank.

Awesome that’s what I’m gonna do return on one end and intake on other. I also have 2 Jebao pp4 powerheads to put on each end. Did you use 1” drain and 3/4 “ return?

The Eclipse overflows come with a large diamond bit and template for the overflow box. It has dual 1"drains, one for primary, one for emergency. I used 3/4" return from a Jebao DCP-8000 return. The return pump is WAY overkill, but I prefer too much power to too little.
