Anyone have experience that bleaching these messes them up? I seem to remember it happening when I did this a time or two last year?

Any other way to sterilize them? Freezer?

Yes do not use bleach. It will destroy it and it will no longer work. Put it in fresh water for a day and then allow it to completely dry for a few days. That's what I usually do.
