6-8 hours of higher intensity is plenty enough....

Mine runs from 9am to 23;50pm, but thats just moonlight channel, others are from 11-12 ramp up, full from 12-20, then ramp down to off in 21pm....

I have to figure out how to adjust the night mode. It has moonlight and stuff, which I could not yet figure out. Thanks for a sample schedule, I will figure it out and hopefully do not shock the corals that the world has ended with half as much light on :D

Take a look at this video: it's for a biocube, but the controller is the same, and can help you with your settings.

I set my lights on a 0800-1700 schedule to coordinate with my work hours; there's a 30 min ramp-up period.

Thanks for the video. I guess I have to double check the wiring. Only 2 channels seem to make a difference, when I adjust anything, maybe these people I bought them from forgot to wire the other channels.

And how things are?

Yes, let's see some pics of your coral. :)
You guys tell me. I honestly see some change, but not substantial, maybe looking at it too much.

So June26 - Start and June 30 as of today.

You only need turn the lights on and off to induce the coral to open and close and photosynthesis.
Really it's the flouresecnt bacteria living inside the coral doing it.
Fwiw. Lights on 6-10hrs a day. If it's not bright enough u can increase brightness but water quality really is where you need to look if your wanting to keep coral live and healthy and grow.

Thanks for the insight. Effectively the lights are on 11.5 hours, since the ramp up takes about 4 hours both ways. Do you think that is still too much?

As for water quality, I am monitoring the parameters and they are pretty much on par with API description (whatever came with the test kit instructions), I am still not sure what I am missing.
I also introduced a sea hare to deal with algae and against all popular belief it does it macro algae as well, since this one did.

Still trying to figure out the core concept on reef tanks (or at least on this one), because there is not a single coral I could grow and most die sooner or later. :(

To answer your question, I recently bought a Milwaukee tester and I am 1.024 and 1.025 (also with the Instant Ocean meter). I am still not growing anything. I have some recent corals that considered beginner, we will see how it goes. Maybe it is the tank setup itself, because based on the Poly Filter I have no trace elements.

Can anyone help me? It seems like any coral I put in there high brightness requirement anything everything is dying.
Seems like corals are shrinking now (while fully opened, which I though means they are happy). I am confused. Is it really this hard to grow coral and I should just give up? If anyone has a bulletproof advice, I am all ears.

Its not hard, but something is off...

Sadly, really no way to tell for sure based on description, so maybe few pics?

I doubt that this is strictly light related, probably combination of things.....
