I wish I could get more consistant, Some picture turn out really well (in my opinion) and some turn out like crap. I guess its just practice makes perfect.

With shimmer, various rays of color, it is always hit and miss.

Not sure what lights you’re using, but turning down the blue will help you capture more colors. Your white balance looks off (too blue).

Thank you, I'm using the sony A7II with a sony 50mm macro lens. I just don't have a clue what's the best settings to use for fish tanks. So I've been keeping it in auto mode.

Even in auto mode, the pictures came out spectacular. I've never experienced such quality with my Nikon camera(

It is a Nikon D40 with a 18-55 lens .... got it out and dusted it off ...old camera

My tank is so dull...no fancy color corals to practice on.
These are all straight shots, no post-production photoshop or other correction of any kind.

In order to get good depth of field I would suggest shooting in Aperture Priority mode and selecting a fairly high (f16 and higher) aperture. This will absolutely require a tripod for the relatively slow shutter speeds. Unless you're going for a more selective focus/blur/bokeh on the background style of photo.

I like shallow depth of field most of the time.... f 5.6 ... background out, focus on eye

to slow to get good sharpness for me... some movement from vibrations or water movement

first one should of been darker.... working on color balance.....
what color balance do you use? I shoot in jpeg, not raw
