Stocking for 300g plus large tanks

I am in the nearing the end of my build journey for a new 360g aquarium, 8ft x 3ft x 2ft. I have a rough idea of around 5-7 fish that I know I will be getting for this mixed reef tank, but I know I will end up with more. I have not set down and came with a game plan for fish yet. But I was curious, for those of you out there that have extra large tanks how many fish are you keeping and what types? I know this will vary a lot, but it would nice to see what stocking plans look like for others. So what is in your 300 plus gallon tanks?

84x30x25" Currently 9 tangs, 4 damsels (3 types) dwindling group of chromis, sixline, coral beauty and blue streak cleaner wrasse.

I had a pair of CBBs but lost them both unexpectedly a month apart after being in 2 years for the female and 14 months for the male. I have a single CBB that's been in observation now for 2 months but I'm hesitant to add it. I'm going grow it out some more and think about it. Its in a 40g breeder that is basically a reef tank so it's not like a QT tank. I'm not planning on adding any more tangs or other large fish. Some of my tangs are getting old 5, 9 and 10 years for my convict purple and naso so they're getting big and I have a vlamingii 2 yo getting pretty big as well as a growing hippo and 4 yellows. The tank is pretty peaceful other than an occasional chase and they get frisky close to lights out so I'm not going to risk upsetting the harmony. I wish I could have gone larger but I didn't have room when I upgraded from a standard 6ft 180g.

That is an awesome reef! I tend to keep fewer fish, my old 180g only had 7 fish in it, mostly tangs but still not a lot.

I don't like a busy tank and can't stand watching aggression. Just sit back and relaxing is how I like it. I did try for a group of 10 chromis for some activity but they've gradually whittled the numbers down to 4. Good luck in the new build.

I had 6 green chromis that slowly turned to 1 in my old tank. I am not sure what the secret is, I was feeding 3-4 times a day and still had a lot of aggression.

I sold all of my tangs but a Tomini Flame fin and have wrasses and anthias. Wanted a much more peaceful tank.

My DT size is only 180, but I have a Desjardini, a blue hippo, 3 yellows, a tomini, a foxface (looking for a new home, hes started nibbling), 6 line wrasse, lawn mower blenny, and a dwarf red angel. Oh, and an anthias lyretale and a pyramid butterfly.

I have a 225 gal. Right now I have 6 small Anthias that are all schooling together. 3 bartlets and 3 carberryi. I have the tomini tang, large Melanarus, yellow coris, green corris and a royal gramma. I plan to add a mystery wrasse, a Bella or golden head goby, and a barbonis. Also contemplating a school of red fire fish and Bangai cardinals

Nice, I would like a small group of purple firefish, they are a favorite of mine.

It took 3 months to get the two pomocanthus angels to get along, still go at each other a bit. Tried to introduce a 3rd, but that didn’t work out. All 3 clowns get along fine. The Flame Angel was introduced first, the Coral Beauty was a rescue from a tank shut down. They got along fine for 5 months, but last week the Coral beauty started harassing the flame. CB might be moving to the frag tank if it doesn’t stop.

That is an awesome stocking list! That helps me so much to get an idea of how others stock big tanks. Do you have any issues with the larger fish out competing the smaller fish for food? That has been a concern of mine with some the fish I have been looking at.

That is an awesome stocking list! That helps me so much to get an idea of how others stock big tanks. Do you have any issues with the larger fish out competing the smaller fish for food? That has been a concern of mine with some the fish I have been looking at.

We have recently started making our own food based on the BRStV video. Walmart sells a frozen bag of shrimp-scallops-squid-mussels that I use as the base meats. We do a small feeding multiple times per day. With this mix there is something for everyone to grab several bites.

That is a good idea, I have no doubt that feeding that many fish will add up!
