Stopping clowns from hosting

Anyone know a way to make clowns stop hosting a coral. I got a new pair of clarkii and they went straight into my softball size gonipora. I know gonipora do not do the greatest in captivity but having a pair of clown beating it is making it very very unhappy. Anyone to get them to leave it alone?

clowns are guests not hosts lol and sometimes are unwelcome guests at that! can you get a plastic basket to go over the goni? they obviously want to settle down so your going to have to find a home for them

Take a 2 liter bottle. Size and cut a section off. Use a drill and put a bunch of holes around the circumference so water can flow through. You can also use clear plastic containers too. The key is it needs to be clear to let light through, and you need plenty of holes to allow for water movement. That should at least be enough to deter the clowns. Hopefully they will find something else more interesting to use as a home!

I had this happen with my duncans, I ended up moving them to a place the clowns hardly ever go. Seems to work, even though I have two btas, my male clown Loved the duncans!

Gonna be hard to cover. The gonipora is huge open it has to be 7-8 inches across. Maybe 9 inches.

i read and saw a picture of someone who used skewers to put around their coral that they wanted their clowns to leave alone.. sort of like spikes going around the coral and making a teepee shape up top (maybe u can use a rubber band to tie the top). is that a weird idea...?

Been trying to find some information on this type of topic. I have a maroon clown who hosts my RBTA and has for the past 4 months since i put it into the tank. I have read that Maroon's are bullies and usually beat the daylights out of the anemones they live in. I have casually been trying to remove the clown from my tank to eventually move to some less aggressive "Designer" clowns. I also want to add a new rainbow BTA to the tank, it would be nice for this BTA to not get picked on by the clown, is there anything I can do so that the clown will not immediately make a hard switch to the new pretty anemone before i am able to remove him?

I know of one person that came to me concerned about clowns hosting their goni as well.

It ended up that the goni stayed open, and the clowns hosted it. Clownfish poop also makes a great food supply for a hungry goni. :D

Better safe than sorry I guess though if it is looking stressed.

Is it possible for you to put a clear divider in the tank to cordon off the goni from the clowns? Obviously the divider would have to have holes for flow, can your clarkii fit through egg crate? You could seperate and find something else for them to host on their side before removing.

I had this happen with my little clown and my hammer coral. I thought he was gonna kill it but as the hammer shrunk, the clown backed off and the hammer grew back up...this happened for a few months until the hammer evolved to accept the clown...it's funny because the clown is somewhat gentle with it now too....almost like he knows not to be too agressive.

Aside from trying to build something around it or the spike idea which is interesting, i am not sure there is much you can do. Unless you get them something else to host.

I had a pair of clowns that hosted my goni for a couple yrs.The goni didnt like it a 1st but over a couple weeks it opened fully and didnt mind the clowns.I ended up getting rid of the clowns due to anything that got close to the goni the female attacked them even my large tangs :(
