Strawberry Crab shell

Hi guys, i havent seen my strawberry crab since i put him in my tank. Yesterday i found his shell.
Do they change their shells or is it died?

it has been hiding for 3 months lol :D
It was the last time i saw him is when i was putting him into my tank :(

I got a strawberry crab about 3m ago and have maybe seen it 3 times. I saw it's shell today and assumed it was dead. Then I finally saw him in his hiding spot for the 1st time in 6 weeks!!
