Hi folks, I have a 80 G AIO. I recently added new T5 lights and started dosing more frequently and this stringy brown algae has shown up. My phosphates are at 0.1ppm and Alk is 8.4ppm.

I ran some chemi clean recently and did a 30% water change a day ago.

2. It’s all over the tank.
3. Thought it would help kill the algae lol

I added two extra protein skimmers and a Fluval canister filter and it seems to knocking the growth down now.

So chemiclean should be a last ditch effort for Cyanobacteria.

Skimmers and that canister are only going to strip your water of nutrients….and you don’t really have enough to worry about that

Like the other persons said possible Dino’s….i can’t ID it for you.

A microscope to get images of what it is would be helpful.

Photos of more than you frag rack with the whites on can be helpful

What test kits do you use to test?

Do you have any other algae?
How old is the tank?
And what are you dosing more frequently?

Appears to be dinos. See what your nitrate and phosphate level is. If adding Aminos or NoPox, cease for a couple of weeks as they too will feed dinos

Yes, I’m running a UV for 12 hours. Tank is like 5 months old, seeded with like rock from a 5 year old system. Some hair algae but that’s all.

I’ll get more pics and run another set of tests tomorrow. I think I had the lights on too long and that coupled with the chemickean created this fiasco. All my coral seem to be fine and my spa polyps are still out.

Thank you all for your time and help!!! It’s nice to have such a great community.
