I completed a water salinity correction last week, lowering my tank water from 1.028 to 1.026 over the course of a day. I also added chaeto to my display tank to feed my tang and a relatively large trochus died, which I didn’t realise. This is all I can think of having changed in my aquarium in the past week or so, but my long polyp fungia has retracted flesh around its edge, but looks relatively healthy with fat tentacles, but they don’t extend fully either. Ive moved it off the gravel bed, because I believe this damaged the under coral flesh and caused the recession, but I’ve also had a starfish die this week too. this all seems really strange, all of my tests look good, more calcium than usual, but that’s been the case for a while, and slightly higher nitrates but no excessive algae growth? Also looking to get a magnesium test, just to see if that might be related. Any ideas on cause and treatment?
