Hello fellow reefers,
I am somewhat at a loss, after 4 month my pH finally came about 8.1-8.2 and was relatively stable,
but this Saturday everything came down to 7.72 and rises only to about 7.8 in the light period.
I have co2 scrubber, algae reactor which is growing chaeto nicely, and i open my windows frequently (sometimes too much, so my tank temp falls to about 24), I don't know what is going on.
The only thing different about Saturday night is that i left all my windows open and my tank temp fell to about 23.8 but got up into the range fairly quickly (until noon).
I recently started dosing NP Bacto Balance from Fauna marin (my phos got to about .1 and no3 was 25) , but i don't think that 1.1ml daily can be so acidic to bring the whole tank down to 7.7 (it isn't a linear scale after all).
I do water changes weekly around 11-12% (hard to tell how much water there really is inside the system),
Feeding is 3xtimes a day really low amount (a few pellets) for my anthias (Anthias pro feed AF) and once a day i toss in some brine or Mysis (not every day necessarily). I did notice one anthias missing (there were 6, now i only see 5), he maybe died but they are constantly dwelling in the rocks and i cant be sure if it is just coincidence that i see 5 different every time.
Also i would like to add that i cant get anything to skim out, the skimmer is running at 100% and i barely get any foam on top, but i always assumed that my roller filter is just to good at pulling stuff out.
System is now 7 months old.
I can add pics when i get home.
Thank you for all the help thus far, i just cant seem to get the tank to take off. Other people grow these corals so much faster, i only got 1 head on my duncan i 4 months, and when i finally stared to use the nutrients (and started dosing) this happened. Now my dosing pumps are not working, but KH still raises ( i contribute that to the bacterial activity from Bacto Balance)
I will put all my tank info here:

How often is the pH probe cleaned and calibrated?

Ph probe is calibrated monthly. How do you clean it ?
I use an electrode cleaner from Hanna. They are a bit pricey. These are designed to clean probes depending on the kind of deposits from organics to inorganics. There is a general purpose version that might work to remove calcium salts and biofilms. Maybe others will chime with less expensive options.

Cleaning the probe is one thing. I use a soft toothbrush but I don't think that's the most important thing here. I suspect the DOC you add is what makes your bacteria grow and the end product from organic carbon is inorganic carbon in the form of CO2. CO2 lower the pH but not the alkalinity.

You can do a "Randy test" by which I mean you take a smaller amount of your water in a vessel - put in your pH probe - read the pH. Then you aerate your vessel vigorously. If the pH rise - yes - then you have a CO2 problem.

Sincerely Lasse

I think perhaps NP Bacto Balance decreases the Oxygen and increasing CO2 because the bacteria consumes the organic matter thus lower the pH.

I think I finally solved it, I took my skimmer apart, cleaned it (it had all sorts of brown gunk), I presume from the dirty stage, now it is pulling like crazy and my pH suddenly got to 8 (in a few hours). So happy

Never measured PH once but like you, employ those things that can elevate it.

Just to hard to measure accurately and consistently with any test or probe.

But always happy to hear successes!

Good luck.
