Suggestions for addition to tank

Hey all,

Looking for suggestions for either a good algae eating fish or a cool but not stupidly expensive main attraction fish to my 40 gal breeder communty reef tank.

Now i have...
1 ocelaris clown
1 wyoming white clown (female)
2 fire fish
1 chromis
1 blue damsel... had 3, 2 were a holes and got removed
1 six line wrasse
1 ywg pistol pair
Plus other inverts

What should i get??? All the fish i really WANT arent reef safe, need larger tanks etc

The real question, what are the fish you really want and what corals do you have?

For algae control id just go with a turbo snail or sea hare

The real question, what are the fish you really want and what corals do you have?

Tangs, triggers, puffers, hawkfish but mainly triggers and puffers are my faves.

If i did it all again, i would do that. But i love the looks of the corals and underwater world you see when diving. Plus it is hard to not love the simbiotics of the clown and nem or pistol and ywg.

I have the green bta, branching duncan with about 7 heads, kenya, gsp, raja rampage chalice and some small frogspawn and 2 small hammer frags that will go in.

They’re algae grazers and generally I’ve had better luck with them in reefs than I have other fish (even tangs). Plus, they’re stunning display fish once settled and used to the surroundings.

I know where your coming from but they are all juvenile and less than an inch except the wyoming white clown who only chases something away from her nem and firefish who pretty much stay in the rocks unless its food time. The rest are docile and chill. Since removing the two damsels.. it seems empty

Hmm i do love those options and i was looking at the dwarf coral beauty and bi colour angel... whether they graze or not i could do the turbo snails to help there.

The ones you showed me i would probably need to see if i can special order or order online and im in canada... not easy to find all species

After looking a bit more into the angels... The pygmy might be the only or best option. I obviously do plan to get a bigger tank in the future but when and what point I dunno, hopefully start aquascaping over the winter and fill by end of winter. (gunna spend a fair bit of time really dialing it in for what fish and other things I plan to have in there)

The Coral beauty has been one of my faves when it comes to colours and that though.

Any Wrasses that you may suggest, or will they all just clash with my 6 line? I love that guy and love to watch it glide through the water almost looking effortless

In a year these juveniles are going to make this tank busy as juvenile hall with aggression. They are putting up with each other now and if you get extremely lucky they may behave well going forward, but it’s against their nature and survival instincts to stay calm as they mature.

Yup hence the idea of getting started on the larger tank over the winter so its cycled in time for spring.

I watch them daily to ensure the peace is kept and dont plan to add anything that would completely outgrow the tank its in if it were in it alone. Im also not going to grow out any fish just to give them away in a year. Nothing i have grows bigger than 3 inches at adulthood. Community tanks are just that, for a community of fish... if i put a coupke tangs and a trigger with some angels and 5 clowns into a 40 gal then i can see where im steering the ship wrong. Im not putting anything in that is overly aggressive or putting fish together that tend to not get along/not like living with their own species. This is why i came on asking for suggestions on reef safe and compatible suggestions with what i got.

Anyways, i appreciate the warning and concern.
