Suggestions?

I currently have a PJ Cardinalfish on its own in a 10 gal, it was removed from my DT because it was being bullied and its fins were pretty damaged. :(

I'm going to upgrade the tank to a 20 gal long this weekend and am wondering about potential tank mates, I don't really have anything in mind cause I wasn't planning on this tank.

My only criteria is that they are peaceful and I would like for something out of the ordinary for a smaller tank as I have kept the majority of the more common nano fish. Also I don't think I'll have coral so non-reef safe fish are OK! Also bare-bottom just want to try a tank without sand for once.

I have had a chalk bass previously but he jumped :(, I would have a lid this time so may consider it. I definitely love them though.
