Hey everyone,
I have an aqua one minireef 215 which is 243 litres in the display tank and 60 litres in the sump. Basically the drainage pipe that goes into the first small compartment (which is the filter floss holder) basically touches the filter floss which makes it lots of work to get out and replace the filter floss as I have to empty out the overflow box and then unscrew the pipe, take it out, replace the filter floss and then screw the pipe back in which doesn’t seem like much but it takes a decent chunk out of my morning. I can’t currently afford a filter roller and using a filter sock wouldn’t actually make it any easier, so I had a question about the actual pipe. Since the pipe is so long I also recently had a blockage causing the tank to overflow which is also why I’m asking this.

Basically my question is, can I take the pipe out that the tank water goes through to drain into the filter floss and then the sump, so I can cut it a bit shorter which will make it easier and less maintenance for me to get the filter floss/filter sock out without unscrewing the pipe, etc? If so, how do I do this and how short should I cut it? In addition to this, if I do cut it will it make the waterfall sounds louder and/or will it mean more water splashes out and causes crystalising and everything?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have some pictures? Off hand it sounds like it would be fine.
