Sump questions

I'm relatively new to the hobby and have a 55 gallon rectangle with all my equipment in the display tank and no sump. After posting some LEDs for sale another member offered a trade for some pumps. At first I declined but was thinking about it today and thought maybe it would be a good time to possibly get that stuff out of the display tank. I currently have my protein skimmer, heater, uv sterilizer and filter in my tank and I have a spare 40 gallon tank in my garage that is unused. What else would I need to make it work? My tank does not have an overflow and is not drilled. Here's some pics to help. Thanks everyone.

You'd need an overflow or pvc DIY overflow, lines for the overflow or pcv, a return line (pvc), unions for said lines, so you can take it apart when you want to without much trouble, a light under there so you can see, and possibly grow macro out, and a return pump.

So with out an over flow or a drilled tank how do I get water from the display tank to the sump. Do I need a pump attached to PVC sucking water from display to sump cause then that wouldn't really be an overflow would it.

Or how do I drill a tank that is already set up with live stock?

I wouldn't drill a set up tank, save that for your next one.:tongue:

In order for you to get water from the DT to the Sump its gotta be an Overflow Box or DIY PVC Over Flow or a drilled tank. Using other means can cause floods when electicity goes out.
