Hi all,

I am in the process of setting up a 90 gallon aquarium and would like to know if a 30 gallon sump would be big enough or should I get a 40 gallon aquarium and turn it into a sump. I purchased a 30 gallon as that was the size that would fit in my stand but I am getting a taller stand so I could probably get a larger sump in there if needed.

Thanks.

30g could do, but a 40b would be nice, what I have on my 120g
I like room for gear, and I like to have a fuge for pod production.

The bigger the better

Too tall and getting in becomes a problem

Do a mock up, to see how high you can go and still get skimmer, macro and the likes out

I just set up my 90 with a 30 gallon (36 × 12 x 16) a 40 breeder (36 × 18 x 16) would also fit but I wanted some space around my sump setup as far a size I personally wouldn't look so much into height as i would the foot print, height gives water but no where to put your equiptment.

I have a 90 and used a 40 breeder as my sump. Total volume ended up around 115 gallons or so. I like the bigger the better approach. More water leads to more stability.
