I'm just moving into a new house and bringing my 210 mixed reef with me.
It currently lives in my basement with the sump directly beneath it.
In my new place, I'd like it to be a more central feature of the living space, so I've begun my plan.
1) Placement
The house is a single level over a basement, with about 14"x25' engineered floor trusses on 16" or 24" center spacing under the main level. (Example below)
My 210 should straddle 3-4 of these trusses (depending on true spacing) and run perpendicular to them.
The wall behind the aquarium supports the interior stairs (this wall will be important to question 2) and extends vertically to the basement slab floor, presumably with a matching set of top and bottom plates orthogonal to the floor trusses.
Approximately 3' from that wall in the basement is another wall creating a mechanical room in the basement. Its longer than the stairwell wall and runs parallel to it. It is also under the floor trusses.
Is this sufficient structure?
2) Sump
I'd like to move the sump into the basement. My existing stand was homemade and is taller than I'd like (necessary to support a sump underneath). Plus that would reduce the dead load on the floor above.
That brings me to plumbing. I'd like to run the plumbing through that stairwell wall (there's already HVAC ducting in there) as opposed to drilling holes through my floor.
I was thinking using one of those washing machine drain boxes in the wall, and running 2-3 2" PVC sch40 drains across and down into that mechanical room. I'm also very cognizant of leaks and was wondering if I should use those 2" lines as a sleeve for a smaller line (PEX?). I can imagine at least 2 drains, one regular, and one emergency drain, but don't want to constrict the drain too much.
That leaves the supply lines, again maybe through a washing machine drain box, but those could definitely be smaller lines sleeved.
Should I abandon the sleeve idea? Does anyone have experience with large diameter drain lines failing over time due to abrasion?
Any tips/tricks/suggestions?
